Abstract
The purpose of this research was to identify the effects of step-by-step vocational training through staff and employer of workplace on the cooking task skills of individuals with intellectual disabilities. For this, three individuals with intellectual disabilities attending vocational class at a special school were selected based on several selection criteria. Kitchen in restaurant workplace was selected as the experimental location. The experimental design consisted of multiple probe design across subjects, one of single subject research techniques. The experimental conditions were divided into three types including baseline, intervention and maintenance according to the experimental design. The intervention program involved mutual connection of staff instruction(first-step) and employer instruction(second-step) of workplace. First, in the staff instruction of intervention program, the instruction technique of ¡®response prompting¡¯ was composed primarily by using the language prompting, movement prompting, physical prompting in the restaurant workplace. Second, employer instruction of workplace included language prompting focusing on error response through target behavior of research subjects, which were a part of brief response prompting. Cooking task skills, the target behavior (dependent variable), was operationally defined as cooking of BIBIMBAB by the subjects; it was composed as a total of 10 sub steps through task analysis. The research result demonstrated that the research subjects effectively acquired and maintained BIBIMBAB cooking task skills through the intervention program. Lastly, this study presented discussion, conclusion, suggestion on future studies, and limitation by focusing on the functional meaning and value of independent and dependent variables.
